李书华致函先生，请协助查找国会图书馆藏北京大学教职员名录，并谈李大钊、陈独秀信奉共产主义的时间。
守和先生惠鉴：
弟为《传记文学》拟写一篇《七年北大》。弟系1922年八月到北大物理系任教，1929年暑假时离开北大。弟初入北大一二年时，全校共有教授约七八十人，现就记忆所及，还可想出教授姓名，约七十人左右。国会图书馆是否藏有那时北大教职员录？如有，敬请费神用xerox印一份寄下。用费若干务请示知，弟当如数归还。
弟初入北大时，北大图书馆主任（或称图书部主任）是李守常，大约一九二三？守常离开图书馆，主任一职由皮宗石（皓白）继任。皓白之后，由兄继任。兄到北海图书馆，北大图书主任便由马叔平继任。守常离开图书馆是否在一九二三年？彼为何离开图书馆？守常在北大每周教课一二小时，其所任之课，系何名称？是否属于政治系？盼示知。
弟以为守常开始倾向共产主义是在一九一九年，或在“五四”稍后，亦未可知。陈独秀倾向共产主义则在一九二〇年春，彼由北方至上海以后。中共两位老祖宗：“南陈北李”，北李倾向共产主义比南陈还要早半年到一年，兄意以为如何？亦希示知。

The clerical assistance of $750 which I requested would include the typing of the final manuscript for offset printing. If a research grant could be awarded, the bibliography should be published next fall.
As you will note, there is a considerable literature relating to Chinese archaeology and anthropology which has not received the attention from scientists it deserves. If a guide could be published, it would be a contribution to the Science of Man. In view of your Foundation's role in fostering scholarship, I hope I may count on your support.

奉到手教，当即到书库详细检查，此间仅有民六所印《北大二十周年纪念册》，内有教授名单，想哥大已入藏。又《守常文集》最近在北平出版，此间有一部，适为他人借出，无法检查，想哥大亦购到矣。守常何年离开图书馆，弟已不记忆，但决早于一九二三年。当时弟在巴黎（时刘半侬、许德珩、周梅荪均在巴黎），故不知其详也。至于守常开始倾向共产主义，大概在一九一九年，记得加拉罕两次宣言影响最大。弟前在西岸时见加州大学藏各校同学录职员录甚多，兄可直接写信询问有无1922-1929之北大职员录，函寄Reference Librarian, East Asian Library, University of California, Berkeley 4, Calif.，不久可得复函也。弟所编《留欧博士论文目录》，除意大利方面暂缓进行，其余大致完成。前承惠赐序文，即希于一二星期内赐下是荷。顺候著祺。

For the last two years I have been engaged in compiling a bibliography of Chinese archaeology and anthropology. The work in analyzing scientific journals has taken much longer time than I had anticipated. To try to secure some support, I hope you can serve as one of my references.
I enclose a statement which I hope to send to the Wenner-Gren Foundation for a research grant. If they ask for your comment, I hope I may count on your support.
Since you have a mimeographed list of your papers, could you be good enough to check against those titles which should be included in the bibliography? I shall greatly appreciate your help, so that no articles of importance will be overlooked.

As I am so anxious to have my bibliography on Sinkiang published, I shall submit my application for a printing subsidy to the Harvard-Yenching Institute. I shall send you a copy for your reference. If you could write a letter to explain the importance of these bibliographies, it would be of material help. Most of my western friends have never heard of the name of Sinkiang and do not realize its strategic importance.

辱荷谕复，所示书名及所赐《新疆国界图志》一并珍藏架箧，以备随时检索。晚最近读剪National Geographic Magazines旧刊，关于中华西北之图说多种，益觉新疆等处塞外问题饶有经世及艺术意味。《新疆丛刊》络续增椠，匡协邦国、嘉惠儒林可断言也，敬佩敬佩。“魏大使”处亦蒙慨允赠送及售寄该册，有求必许，更见恩泽，中心感激，莫可言宣，祗谢祗谢。圣诞节，晚特赴哥大校长馆问询室，观瞻诸教席全年名著陈列厨，中获见某教师所撰《新近图书学之倾向》一书。窃谓为校刷印作品，或为公所爱阅。因当时大学校售书坊停业五日，亟录全名，嘱小儿家林及家勇试往Brentano或Scribner购就寄奉（晚当晚返乡），未识已先登递高斋否，念念。不敢云报，藉以聊表景慕至诚耳。书不尽怀，恭请钧安。阖第春岁皆大吉祥。

It is my pleasure to inform you that the Board of Directors of the Wenner-Gren Foundation for Anthropological Research approved the grant described in the Resolution set forth below.
There are no limitations or conditions attached to the conduct of projects aided by the Wenner-Gren Foundation, whose policy is to rely upon the integrity and scientific ability of its grantees. However, semi-annual reports on progress of grants and a final report on accomplishments of all projects are requested for presentation to our Board of Directors. It is understood that if the project is abandoned for any reason prior to completion, the amount of grant not theretofore expended in connection with the project shall revert, at its option, to this Foundation.
A list of publications reporting results of research supported in whole or in part should be submitted not later than the first week of January, for inclusion in the Foundation's Annual Report. In addition, acknowledgment of aid from the Wenner-Gren Foundation for Anthropological Research is requested in all material released for publication, as well as three or more copies of published material for the Foundation's Research Library.

敬启者，许久未修书敬候，抱歉殊深，恭维著述丰宏，撰祺迪吉，至以为颂。上月拜奉赐赠圣诞礼物，高谊隆情，寔深感谢（包裹内有银包、袖口钮、领带等均收妥）。十一月时奉上香茶两罐，想已及时到达也。十二月十八日手示早已拜读，内附汇单贰十美元一张，及代转令岳信亦已付邮。日前收到渠来示，嘱代转尊夫人信附呈左右，敬希察收为幸。书内并附其大作一首，嘱读后并附上。诗内有关于香港沦陷时，他有皮包稿件由孙述万先生手寄存冯平山圕，后被日人劫去云云。但此事当时并未有闻孙君说及，完成不知，而且孙君所做事皆秘密，只他自己知而已，深以为憾。汇单二十元找得港币一百十四元三角五分（五七一七五算），经即由中国银行汇寄一百十四元与令岳收，但其来信并未有谈及收到该款，想当在尊夫人信内提及。兹付回中国银行收据一纸，祈察收，并支汇费五角六，即由尊账内补一角五分，及寄信令岳处邮费五角，并此次信资二元，共代支二元六角半，前存四十四元六角，比对尚存四十一元九角半也。屡蒙赐寄美国纪念邮票，至谢。拙藏旧邮至今已有四十余年，积存至九千余枚，并无珍品，只是普通而已。少年时俱是搜集皆不购置，待至近年始有出资搜购，而以中共之纪念及特种新票为最齐全，故有欲向联合国补购各票之举也。港中天气寒冷，但仍是干旱，四日一次供水仍续进行，所幸天寒地冻，则用水较少矣。专此，敬请钧安。

久未上书，时以起居为念。“内阁”改组，我公佐理院务，深为额庆，引企新猷，至为钦仰。同礼编印《新疆研究丛刊》，委托台北商务印行，内中第六种《新疆国界图志》则在香港付印。十一月初旬由香港新华印刷公司邮寄二百部于台大史学系主任余又荪先生等，原为赠送友人及各图书馆及各大学之用，而台北邮局内所附之海关误为营业性质，不合进口规则，全数扣留已逾三月，仍存海关仓库并未退回香港。因念我公对于边疆研究素所赞助，可否转托“财长”，通知海关免予扣留，仍照所列地址交邮寄递。如承惠允，不胜翘企，仍盼赐覆为感。此上，敬候道祺。

量予先生著席：
正拟作书报告代售《史事日志》经过，适奉二十八日手教，藉悉所中研究进展近况，至以为慰。印刷问题最感头痛，《金轺随笔》等书于一年前改交商务，据云去秋台北飓风时被毁，弟亦不敢相信，大约商人谋利，先印教科书以致。弟委托之件迟迟不办，亦无可奈何也出版后即奉赠。弟处尚有《新疆目录》中文之部，约数千条，不知应交何处印刷（排印），能否不予资助且能赠送若干部，亦盼便中指示。尊著寄到后，正拟分寄各图书馆推销，不意有一美人（姓名俟查出再函告）费正清的学生曾到过台北，发出代售台北书籍之广告，将尊著书价列为美金$5.50，下注系台湾商务交其代售者请向商务一询究竟。弟不得已只得改寄德国二部、意大利一部，其余一部则售于国会图书馆。兹将该馆寄来书款美金十一元支票，签字后随函奉上，即希察收。至于德、意之三部发票，仍请便中寄下，以便转寄。至于书款，当告其直接交邮寄上，附上格式一纸，以备参考前寄来之排印广告不能作正式发票用，即希打就寄下是荷。顺候时祉。

一月卅一日手书及附件均敬悉。序文稿经恒慕义先生改正后，更觉得简单、明了、精确，甚善甚善。此位八十老人不怕费神，找了若干参考书校正，其兴趣之浓厚，深堪敬佩！重打之改正稿第一页第八行第四个字“1852”系误打，应改为“1582”。马建忠在巴黎读书之学校，弟不知其是否为巴黎大学？张若谷编马良年谱载“1877年眉叔应试巴黎政治学院获得优奖”云云，弟疑所谓“巴黎政治学院”为另一学校（或为Ecole des Sciences Politiques之类），而非巴黎大学。改正稿第二页第二行末尾有“at the Sorbonne”，不知恒慕义先生有所依据否？如有，自当照旧；如无，似以含糊其辞，将“at the Sorbonne”改为“in France”为妥。可否便中再一询恒慕义先生，何如？除此之外，弟对于改正稿，均极同意。承寄下重打之改正稿一份，谨留存，想尊处必还有他份也。匆此，顺请撰安。

It has been quite a long time since I saw you for the last time. I have been to Taiwan for a little over three years after my resignation from “the ambassadorship to Chile” in 1951. At the call of my late wife, I returned here in 1956. She died in 1958.
Since then, I have been working on a book entitled, The Sino-Soviet Riddle in Sinkiang-An Episode of Foreign Relations, 1942-1944. The project was sponsored by the Far Eastern Department of the University of Washington. The manuscript has been completed in 1960, and I have been revising it from time to time.
I just learned from新疆书目（日文之部），which I bought from the East and West Book Shop, that you had published other titles in both Chinese and English. I shall appreciate it very much if you will kindly mail a copy each of such publications with the exception of the above edition I have in possession. Do bill me so that a check may be sent you in due course.
As you would probably recall, I was in Sinkiang for three years shortly before Sheng Shih-tsai was transferred to Chungking in 1944. My manuscript will contain all negotiations with the Soviet authorities there. In a way, it is a kind of my memoir. When it is published, I shall be happy to send you a copy autographed.
I have been living in retirement for nearly three years with occasional trips to the University library here. Please keep me informed of any other project in mind relative to Sinkiang. It is a territory I am vitally interested. Right here, I am keeping all available information on file on the progress of this Region since 1949.

But I would greatly appreciate your help if you could ask your colleague to send me a list of books and articles on Chinese art which have been published in Czechoslovakia. I hear that a new museum of Far Eastern art has been established not far from Prague and Dr. Lubor Hajek is the leading figure in this field. No doubt important studies have appeared in recent years.
I have Dr. Hajek's Chinese Art in Czechoslovakian Museums, both the English and German translations. I should like to know the titles of his other publications on Chinese art. At present I am engaged in preparing for publication a bibliography of Chinese art and archaeology, and I am rather anxious to include the contributions from your scholars. For several years I have been engaged in compiling a comprehensive bibliography on Chinese art. As far as American collections are concerned, the coverage is rather complete. In view of the significant contributions by British scholars in the field of Chinese art, I should like very much to continue the research in British libraries and museums so that no works of importance will be overlooked. For this reason, may I apply for a research grant（from 350.0.0 to 400.0.0）from the Universities'China Committee? Herewith I beg to submit a brief statement.
As far as I know, no one has spent so much time in the work of analyzing learned journals. To examine the contents of the Journal Asiatique and the Journal of the Royal Asiatic Society, for instance, is a laborious undertaking. I am glad to say that I have analyzed a multitude of such journals-a work, though exacting, has given me much satisfaction.
Though a labor of love, I should like to have some gesture of encouragement. Since the grants of your Committee are usually awarded in May each year, may I hope to hear from you sometime before June?

I now enclose a list of Chinese students who have been awarded the doctorate by German universities. Since your Library has a complete file of doctoral dissertations, I wonder if you would take the trouble of putting down their Chinese names. If not, could you advise me to whom I should write for their Chinese names? Perhaps instructors of Chinese language and literature at German universities may know some of the names. Would it be possible for you to send me a list of names of these instructors and their addresses（namely, their university affiliation）? With such a list I could write them individually.
I am compiling a Guide to Doctoral Dissertations by Chinese students in Europe. The great difficulty is the identification of their Chinese names. If you have any directory of Chinese students in Germany, could you lend it to me for a few days?

Your plan of compiling a list of dissertations submitted by Chinese students in Italy would be of much interest, but I regret to say that it would be far from easy to carry it out. Wishing to be of help to you as far as possible, I have without delay applied to our “Ministry of Education”, on which all Italian Universities are dependent, in order to get precise information or advice on the matter. Dissertations or Thesis towards University Degrees, are made public after a lapse of 50 years. For your purpose, it ensures that it would be necessary, on the authorization granted by “the Ministry of Education”, to address the individual Faculties of all Italian Universities. There is no need to say that this would entail a heavy and very lengthy work, that might be carried out by mail, and not on the spot. In Rome, only the Faculties of the Roman Universities could be approached to this end. I really do not know of anyone who may help you in a work of this kind. I am sorry at my inability of being more helpful in this connection, but as you see the problem is hard to solve. This reminds me to tell you that all such Institutions are closed by the month of June. Thank you so much for your note of April 26, including the reprint of your Bibliography of the Writings of Dr. Hu Shih and the announcement of the Sinkiang Collectanea. I am very pleased to have the Bibliography and I had noted something about the Sinkiang Collectanea. We will order it before long but will probably have to wait until the first of July when our new fiscal year begins. I note that at present seven volumes have been published. Do you have any idea how many volumes this will ultimately run to?
We are trying to build up our Oriental Studies Library here, and, at the moment, we are searching for somebody who can serve as cataloguer-librarian and general manager of the collection which now amounts to about 15,000 Chinese ts'e and some 3,000 bound Japanese volumes. We are trying to find someone who can handle the cataloguing and ordering of both Chinese and Japanese books, and in addition to this ability to be able to use both languages, he needs to be a permanent resident of the United States-to accommodate certain local hiring policies. This combination of requirements has made it fairly difficult for us, but we may possibly get the permanent residence requirement adjusted. Building up the collection was started about three and one-half years ago, and although we do not have as much money to spend now as we had in the last three years, I hope we can keep the collection growing.

From now on the Harvard-Yenching Institute is not going to make a practice of subsidizing publications in the United States under other auspices. However, we shall be willing to issue your bibliography completely at our expense in the Harvard-Yenching Institute Studies Series-with the understanding that all net profits accrue to the Institute-if it is accepted by the publisher of this series, the Harvard University Press, and if the H. U. P.'s estimate of editorial and printing expense is not too great. This series would be a particularly appropriate imprint for your bibliography since, like the compilation itself, it is financed from funds that originally came to us from the Rockefeller Foundation.
I am sending a copy of this letter to Mr. Thomas J. Wilson, Director of the Harvard University Press, at 79 Garden Street, Cambridge 02138. If the proposition suits you, please write directly to Mr. Wilson about how to submit the work to the Press. In 1956 we published a bibliography on Economic and Social Development of Modern China which you compiled in connection with a major area studies contract we handled for the government.
Since then, this work went out of print. Since we feel that the bibliographies are one of the most valuable series of publications we are currently publishing, we hesitate to let your work remain out of print. On the other hand, however, we feel that we should not just reprint a ten-year old bibliography without any up-dating. We would like to publish a new, considerably better looking version of your work if we could have you up-date it. This could be done either by a supplement to each one of the two sections of the present work, or by integrating the new entries into the original text. This would not present us with any additional cost since in the case of a new edition the entire book would have to be retyped in a clear and better looking type.
In short, then, we would like to invite you to work with us in this sense. If you are interested, we should like to know when you would have the time to undertake this work and by what date we could expect to receive the additional material from you in a manuscript form or on index cards.
We sincerely hope that together we'll be able to make this valuable work available once more to scholars and the public.

Although it is time-consuming（about five months'editorial work），I shall be glad to assist you in bringing out a work of reference to all scholars.
Taking advantage of my forthcoming trip to Europe, I shall be glad to collect additional new material in this field which is not yet available in American institutions. After my return in the fall, I shall start the work and I hope the final manuscript could be submitted next spring. We were indeed very pleased with your reaction to my last letter to you. We certainly agree that there is a great need for such a comprehensive bibliography and we feel that we should be able to assist you financially in your work. In order to do this, however, we need from you a letter in the form of a proposal addressed to our organization which we could then work into our own proposal seeking financial assistance for this work.
I would think that such a proposal should include perhaps your own evaluation of the existing bibliographical works in this area demonstrating to us the need for a major up-dated bibliographic compilation. Further, you might elaborate on your plan of research and show how much you would need to bring a thorough work to a successful completion.
In your letter you mention “a small research grant.” We need a more specific figure in order to decide for ourselves whether in case that we should be unable to secure outside subsidy we could possibly carry the full cost ourselves.

Referring to my application for a subsidy toward half of the cost of printing my Bibliography of Sinkiang and your kind reply of September 20 last, I may state that I have had no word from you concerning the decision of the Trustees made at their recent meeting in Taipei.
I had hoped that you would be good enough to arrange to place this request on the agenda of the meeting for consideration by the Trustees. I would appreciate a word from you before long.
I shall soon send you three copies of the Guide to Doctoral Dissertations by Chinese Students in Europe. According to the information I received from Taipei, they were sent to you and other Trustees care of the Grand Hotel at Taipei a few days after you had left. So, they have sent copies to me here for distribution to other Trustees.

十一日惠教及寄下Russia in the East一书，先后收到（书款即寄去），既慰且感。该书约略翻阅，其中多前所未闻未见记述，译稿如整理竣事，恳即邮赐，愿代印行，作为史料丛刊之一。长者如能惠撰序文，当更为生色。龙章先生极愿一晤，日内当设法向“外交部”探询联络。年来此间与欧洲学术界甚少往还，实一大遗憾。最近弟开始与伦敦大学、剑桥大学接触，D. C. Twitchett教授等常有书至，相互交换出版品。Twitchett将于今秋访日之便，顺道来台一行。近史所去年曾派一人赴英，明春可望再有同事一位续往。其他欧陆大学弟亦欲与取得联系，敢祈予以介绍。费正清此次到台，印象甚好，对于近史所及史语所尤热心协助，惟王院长似尚有其政治顾虑，颇不可解。又近史所吕实强君在哈佛进修二年期满，不久拟去华府，届时尚望加以指导为幸。日志销售，多承费神，谨再谢。敬问双安。

Dear Professor Pritchard:
Since receiving your letter of May 1, I have given some thought concerning a suitable person to assist you in building up your Oriental Studies Library.
In view of what you have already accomplished, you would certainly need a man of broad and liberal education than a technical cataloger. In addition to the work of cataloging, such a person should round up your collection by the selection and purchase of essential source materials and by keeping in touch with the sales of large collections as well as with the current output of Chinese and Japanese literature.
Dr. Tsien who I recommended to Dr. Creel is a good example. The high quality of the Chicago collection is much more useful to a scholar than the Library of Congress where a lot of junk are daily adding to the collection as a result of blanket orders and departmental transfers.
For the position in your University, I have in mind of Mr. Lin-sheng Liu who is not only an outstanding scholar, but having lived in Japan for nine years, has a good knowledge of Japanese literature. He is a permanent resident in the United States and is in the process of being naturalized.
Born in 1895, Mr. Liu looks like a man of fifty. He has the capacity for work; and as long as he is in the company of books, he never feels tired. So please do not mind about his age.

Thank you for your letter and statement of proposed work. Let me once more express our appreciation with your readiness to update your work.
We find your fee and associated expenses quite reasonable and the problem at the moment is not our willingness to pay it but where to go for it. We would like to cover our expenses partly from outside subsidy, preferably to cover your cost by subsidy and the cost of manufacturing by our own funds. In that situation we should be able to make the revised edition available at a reasonably low price. It may take us some time before we know when and how much we can get; however, you yourself have your own commitments which will take up the rest of this year. We should be able to know what we can do long before the time and will communicate to you any relative development as soon as we can.

王世杰致函先生，告知“国家长期发展科学委员会”无力补助《中国考古人类文献目录》。
同礼先生道鉴：
本年四月十五日惠函，诵悉。先生于编目工作，经验丰富，此次编成之《中国考古人类文献目录》，区分精密，允为研究中国古史及考古学等最切实用之工具书，此间同人极为推崇。惟因本年度美援已告停止，政府核定预算又极有限，而国内各学术机构申请刊物出版补助者，复较往年增多，致运用支配，倍感困难。故科学会不得不规定原则，将补助范围加以紧缩，凡申请机关勉能自筹财源者，如“中央研究院”、台湾大学、中兴大学等部份出版刊物，本年均未予补助，其必须予以补助之研究性著作刊物，亦就其申请金额尽量核减，对于一般非研究性之刊物，本年度均无法予以补助。尊编经本会专门委员会特别重视，再三研议，仍以目前经费极形拮据，按照紧缩原则，未能如嘱补助。此种实际困难情形，尚希鉴谅。耑此布复，顺颂撰祺。

八月十六日
樊际昌覆函先生，告其夫人、蒋梦麟病逝经过，并谈已恢复教书事业。
守和先生道席：
五六两月间连奉三函敬悉，容一一奉答如后。
内子自一九六二年夏患轻微中风，右半身麻痹后，迄在家休养治疗。因体气已弱，复元不易，但精神始终正常。不意于今年一月廿八日上午再度中风，大脑溢血，数秒钟而昏迷不省。经送台大医院治疗，终因来势猛烈，医者束手，于当日晚间逝世，享年六十八岁。现已安葬于阳明山公墓，与孟邻夫人及许多老友为“邻”。该公墓为周象贤兄任局长时所创办。孟邻夫人逝世时（一九五八年五月）尚未筹备就绪，经弟与象贤兄交涉后，先为夫人建墓，此为该公墓之“第一号”，而今已“人满”矣，且大多数为我辈友好！
去年以前，孟邻先生常说，他要活到九十岁。照他的体况，我想八十五岁是无问题的。但自一九六一年夏结婚后，情况就大不同了。在婚后一年半的生活中，他“外表”快乐，而内心却充满了矛盾和痛苦。我想肝癌早已种了一病根。一九六二年冬在台中跌伤碎臀骨。入医院治疗，又患很严重的褥疮。正在与病魔作斗争中，他又下决心要办离婚，他委托弟办理其事。弟明知其难，但又不忍违拂其意。经整整一年的神经战，居然调解成功（今年一月二十日）。金钱损失（新台币七十万元）犹是小事，而经此resolution后，他的精神空虚，肝癌乘机发作。初则感觉疲乏，至四月间而显现于□光中矣。一生英明，暮年如此遭遇，真堪痛惜。弟日前嘱此间华美协进社台湾分社（弟与勉仲兄分担其事）寄奉《传记文学》（第五卷第一期）数册，内载有此间友好悼文数篇，亮已收到。读兄挽词，为之黯然神往！孟公现已安葬，与夫人同穴。弟今年二月底照章退休。孟邻先生当时虽欲坚留，而弟为个人归宿计，雅不愿再在行将结束之美援机构中，作无谓牺牲，亟思追寻个人兴趣，恢复教书生涯。上半年在台大心理系授课三小时，下学年起在政治大学教育系专任心理课程，在台大兼任。半年以来对心理科学（行为科学）之新发展，作一有系统之温习，真感惊异。幸弟在以往十余年中，尚未完全荒废，否则将不识庐山真面目矣。
兄所需要之农复会书目，方于日内办好。因经办人被去职，新人接管不甚熟手，所以迟延，尚乞鉴宥为幸。短短三年期中，胡、梅、蒋及内子相继以去（孟公可以说是弟的惟一boss，除第一年蔡先生名义的聘书外，但他从未boss过我），弟精神上之打击，殊不易受。现正勉力发愤图存，希望对后继者，犹可稍有贡献，至盼知我者有以教我也。耑此，敬颂道祺。

罗家伦致函先生，请在美购买日本外务省档案有关抗战史料的胶卷并谈购书等事。

前接六月十日手教暨帐单等，均敬奉悉。吾兄欧洲之行，谅已返美矣。
（一）本馆最近请到外汇美金贰仟元，为在国外购置史料胶片及图书之用。兹特挂号寄奉台湾银行本年八月十九日No. 103/64-12020美金贰仟元汇票壹张，请查收领取并代为保存支付为托。（汇票背书注明，凭吾兄护照或其他证明文件支取，以昭慎重。）
（二）前岁八月廿三日大札，告以日本外务省档案在移交贵馆前，曾由国务院自照七十二卷计5875尺，经兄惠寄一九六二年六月十三日估价单一纸，共需美金四九〇元。当时本馆外汇不敷，故未能决定购否。今外汇稍裕，如该七十二卷之内容不在国会图书馆后来所摄2116卷之中，但在有关中日问题之列，则烦神代购一全套。若两者有重复摄印之处，是否应先将本馆已购之三三七卷及现拟续行选购之一、二百卷等卷号一并开列清单寄上，藉供查核，亦请示知。如设重复之处不多，本馆仍可考虑购置。因本馆所急需者为有关抗战之文献，而又想从精简中求节约也。如何之处，尚祈惠示卓见，为荷。
（三）本馆订购Facts on File《一九六三年年鉴》Yearbook, 1963。原出版处于本年三月间寄出，已经收到，价款美金三十元七角前请代付，现又来信催款，如尚未付，请费神代付为感。
（四）新德里牛津书店寄来书籍十五种，其中在吾兄开出之书单内，仅有五种。又收到Park Book Shop寄来Stuart & Levy: Kind-Hearted Tiger一册，均烦代付书款。
